Troubleshooting Guide
Before requesting service, please refer to the following list for the symptom and possible solution.
I am only getting channels 2-13
If you are only getting the first 13 channels, your TV is probably not properly set to receive the cable signal. See: set TV to cable mode or determining if my TV or VCR is cable-ready.
I am getting all the channels, but the lower ones are a lot fuzzier than the higher ones
Make sure that the coaxial cable you are using is of good quality and is securely connected.
You may also wish to borrow a neighbor's cable and connect it to your set.
I am getting no signal at all
Check to make sure that your VCR is off.
Check wall connection to see if it is properly hooked up to an Intertech Cable outlet.
If tuning through your VCR, make sure the TV is set to channel 3, and the switch on the back of the VCR is also set to channel 3.
There are Horizontal or diagonal bars on the screen
Check connections
Check for sources of possible interference
Closed Caption is not working
TV station experiencing problems or program tuned is not CC.
Try another channel.
Check CATV connection
Press TV/CAPTION/TEXT button to turn on the closed caption decode
My remote is not working
Batteries are weak, dead, or inserted incorrectly
Remote is out of range, move closer to TV
Make sure remote is aimed at sensor
Confirm there are no obstructions between the Remote and the TV
Make sure the power cord is plugged in
Snowy/Blue Screen
Check connections
Check VCR Mode.
Some TVs go to blue screen during an outage. Do not assume there is a VCR problem if you see a blue screen.
Check the coaxial cable connections
Hook coaxial cable directly to the TV eliminating the VCR.
Check with your neighbor to see if they are experiencing any technical difficulty.
To set your TV to receive Cable
Look on the front or back of your TV set for a CATV switch (often within a door or panel). Set this switch to CATV.
For television sets with a three-position switch (typically "STD/IRC/HRC"), you want to set the TV to the STD position.
If your TV or VCR has a remote control, a set up or menu button on the remote may prompt an on-screen display. Scroll through the on-screen menu until you reach the CABLE/AIR or ANTENNA/CATV option. Select CABLE or CATV or STD.
Is my TV or VCR cable ready?
First check your owner's manual.
If you don't have your owners manual, here are some tips:
If you must manually tune in channels (like the old roll knob sets) then your TV is most likely not cable-ready.
If your TV was recently purchased, or if you can use your remote to enter channel numbers, then there is a good chance that it is cable-ready.
Troubleshooting Tips for Non Cable-ready TVs Using a Standard Cable Box:
Box doesn't come on
Try another electrical outlet and check to see if a light switch controls outlet.
Cable box is flipping through channels
Unplug at electrical outlet then plug back in and turn back on; box will then reset.
TV is off by one channel
Be sure TV is on channel three (3); tune TV if necessary.
Snowy reception
Verify TV is on channel three (3)
If a VCR is being utilized, VCR should be off or on channel (3) if on.
Check connectors
Check TV/VCR mode.
TV is not turning on or off
Some TVs will turn off and on with the cable box if the electrical cord from the TV is plugged into the outlet on the back of the cable box. Try the Cable box power.
Some TVs lose programming and revert back to channel two (2) or turn off with the cable box but will not come back on.
This type of TV would be best utilized plugged into its own outlet.
